Martellan

When the comet dust rained down on the earth, most people were only concerned with what lay outside their own doors. Not that that's wrong, it's just very few took time to consider what else might have been mutated out there. I myself seeing the majority of the monsters in person, I can imagine the immediate concern. But, almost no one took time to consider that the mutations extended as far out as the ocean.

Frankly, I'm amazed Martellan is as big a rarity as he is. There are nearly 4 Trillion fish in the ocean, not including mammals, crustaceans, mollusks.... Suffice to say, there are probably a lot more mutated animals living down there. That big hammerhead just happens to be the first one seen.

A wanderer, Martellan has been seen in all oceans save one, apparently cold isn't something he's too crazy about. He was first a sort of urban myth amongst fishermen and freighter workers; a giant shark that would eat whatever you caught.

But, along the way, probably when Frank and I weren't chasing him, Ragido came into contact with him, and apparently defeated him. There are no known witnesses, but it is believed to have happened around Hawaii, due to scientists tagging the behemoth off those shores and seeing scars on his body.

Martellan, in the battles witnessed, has proven to be somewhat noble, saving boats from the more predatory monsters, like those fishermen off the sea of Cortez, and that cruise ship.

As such, the public largely like this shark, he has yet to claim a human life, and he seemingly has come to the rescue in the past. If it weren't for the fact that he's a shark, he might very well be the most popular monster around.

But, nonetheless, he has caused the electricity to short on ships before, making him a rather bittersweet encounter for sailors. Martellan doesn't seem to be bothered by humans in the least, especially considering that all military attempts to divert the creatures path have resulted in battleships without power.
